In the works...

Does anyone else work like this, with many projects growing at the same time? This photo was taken about a month and a half ago and shows some of the projects I have been working on. The Whisper shawl, so called because I am using Aurora Yarn's Whisper handpainted lace yarn, is now a full triangle with just the lace edging to be finished across the top of the triangle, excuse me, the hypotenuse. The 'sea mist' shawl below it is some of my handspun and I am using the 'Garden Shawl' pattern from Evelyn Clark's 'Knitting Lace Triangles'. To the left I am working on one of the samples from Melissa Leapman's cables class. And there are too many other projects to mention, besides spinning.
Here we are at the Mockingbird Cafe where we meet on Friday mornings to knit and share. Some of our regulars are missing but here we have, left to right, Marsha, Eileen and Cherri. I caught them at an apparently somber moment, what cameras can do to people(!), but you won't find us this quiet if you visit. We welcome newcomers both to the area and to knitting, and between us there is always someone to teach knitting, or a crochet technique. There is always something to inspire us, and always encouragement to finish projects which is what I am off to do.

MMM

I am in Monday Morning Mode.

Slept in after a weekend away. Birmingham, Alabama, which I didn't get to see much of due to major headache, oh well. But I liked what I did see, especially the trees along the drive north. There is a definite difference from the Gulf Coast area where we live, where you can still see sights like this despite so much rebuilding. Even the green of the trees is a bit different, especially after a good downpour which the area got on Sunday.

It is good to be home. I hope to do some spinning today, and then work on the Whisper shawl. I promise a photo when it is finally finished and blocked. So, I am off to enjoy puttering this morning before settling down to work. Ciao.

I've been spinning again

Last Friday I received the final rovings in the spring Roving Art club, and was I surprised! I know that Martie doesn't like to do blues too much but she certainly transcended this when she chose a Matisse painting and interpreted it on the roving.

I had to wait until Monday to start spinning as we were away for the weekend, here is the first half of the roving spun on the bobbin with the other half coiled behind it waiting to be spun.

Here is the plied yarn on the bobbin. I finished spinning it yesterday and quickly wound it off on my niddy noddy to make the skein.

Here is the finished Matisse Roving Art skein on the left. Next to it is Free Fall #115, and on the right is Free Fall #125.
Now I have to come up with something wonderful to make with them. Plus I have an extra roving of 'Matisse' to spin up so that I can make a larger piece. Oh, too much fun. I was able to get 638 yards of Matisse from 4 oz., 616 from F.F.#115, and almost 5oo yards from #125. So I have lots to work with.
As for knitting I am determined to finish the lace triangular shawl I have been working on from Victorian Lace Today. It is worked from the outside edges in so I am constantly decreasing and it is starting to go faster as a result. Yea!
Back to knitting!
